Many hotels and resorts have taken note of the skyrocketing numbers of gluten-free and allergy-affected travelers, and have tweaked their menus and activities to accommodate a variety of diets. Time to check in:
The Inn on Randolph: In Napa, chef and cooking instructor Jeffrey Larsen leads a gluten- and allergen-free cooking class. During the two-day course, students learn about alternative grains, tour the Oxbow Public Market and make gluten-free pasta. $450 per person; $600 for doubles; call for fall dates.
The Fairmont: This line of hotels and resorts now offers Lifestyle Cuisine Plus, which caters to gluten-free, vegan, raw and macrobiotic guests--as well as those with specifications due to diabetes, heart disease and allergies. Meeting and event menus can also be adjusted to reflect certain diets. Rates vary.
Rancho La Puerta: The resort, located about an hour south of San Diego in Tecate, Mexico, offers a gluten-sensitive package, which includes a 45-minute nutrition consultation, as well as a hands-on cooking class with executive chef Denise Roa. Guests learn how to make dishes such as quinoa paella. $225 per person. | | | | | | | Try Thomas Keller's Gluten-Free Flour | | | | Allergy-Friendly Menus Around the Country | | | | | | Add to Your To-Do List | | | | | | Sponsored | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
